Vein Removal - Ligation and Stripping
Until about the year 2000, the “gold standard” for eliminating varicose veins was vein removal with an operation, usually performed using general anesthesia. Today, we have less invasive options available.
How Are Vein Removal Operations Performed?
Cutdowns are performed over the legs and the veins are tied off and removed. This was very effective but often not complete. This procedure required significant recovery with lots of downtime and discomfort. Many Phlebologists still use local anesthesia, make small stab incisions, clamp the vein segments and remove them. This is effective, but recovery is often prolonged and the resulting incisions frequently are not cosmetic.
At Vascular Vein Centers, with few exceptions, we use a foamed sclerosant to close, not remove, varicose veins. We feel it gives a more complete elimination of diseased veins with less trauma and similar long-term results. Feel free to talk to our staff of experts on vein elimination.
Vascular Vein Centers was one of the early practices to use laser ablation and subsequent foam sclerotherapy. The procedure can be performed in a clinic setting with no sedation or anesthesia. The recovery is short and generally not uncomfortable and the results are more aesthetically pleasing.
Vein removal used to be a major procedure, but not anymore. We use minimally invasive treatments that don’t include cuts, stitches and long recovery periods.
"I have been a patient since 2011 and I can't express my gratitude too much. "

What Are the VVC Treatment Options for Leg Health?
If you’re looking for a way to help your legs feel better, VVC treatment options available for you are:
Sclerotherapy
This treatment involves the injection of a solution that closes diseased veins. Blood flow to these abnormal veins stops, the diseased vein is eventually absorbed by the body and blood flows to healthier veins.
Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)
In EVLT, a focused laser light transmits heat to the wall and is used to close diseased veins. This is done without incisions, stitches or a long recovery. The procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes to perform. You can see a short video of the procedure here.
Does VVC Offer Facial Spider Vein Treatment?
